Bewitched.

Due to the mandatory furlough time, I came back home early today.  I was watching “Bewitched” on TV.  My caption is on and I have noticed how to spell Tabitha for the first time.  I thought it was Tabasa or Tabatha.  I am talking about the baby girl of the couple.

When my sister was pregnant, we called the unborn baby Tabitha.  I don’t remember the detail, but I think we were watching one of the series on TV at my mom’s home, and we thought the sound Tabitha was kind of cute.  Of course, we had known that the baby was a boy at the end.  The pronunciation of Tabhitha in Japanese was “Ta-ba-sa,” whereas it sounds like “TA-bi-tha” in English. The first syllable gets the stress of the word and the second syllable is weak.  Oh, well I won’t go to linguistics jargon.  All what I want to say is the English vowel, “i” can be very tricky.  It can sometimes be uttered  as a weak “a” depending on surrounding sounds.  I am just enjoying my own discovery of English sounds.  Nerd…
